VISN 5 wanted a new look for important documents, beginning with the Making Connections report. I created this new look by emphasizing the connection theme that VISN 5 was promoting, while complying with the VHA (Veterans Health Administration) style guide. This was given to the all meeting attendees with members of the US House of Representatives and US Senate.

VISN 5 wanted an annual report that was more than just a word document with a nice cover.  To make the report more interesting, I created a report that folds like a map with the back page showing the locations of all VA hospitals and clinics in the region. The back page was inspired by the iconic London underground map. This became the first VISN 5 report that required a second printing because of its popularity.

The existing template for VA Research Currents was three years old when I updated it. I kept the successful elements of the existing template while giving it a more modern look, and making it 508 compliant. These changes combined with promotional updates from the ORD resulted in the number of Currents subscribers almost doubling.

In 2015, ORDs products needed a fresh, more modern appeal. I was tasked with creating this new style, and the first products updated were the facts sheets (below) and the 2015-2016 edition of Research Advances. The result was a cleaner look for one of ORDs most important promotional pieces.

To save on storage space and shipping costs, the ORD decided to replace their traditional brochures with print on demand fact sheets. I designed these new fact sheets to be a smaller publication than the predecessor while containing more information. They are easier to print on a home printer, resulting is a more informative and useful document.

The TBI State of the Art Conference was a high profile event attended by many important VA stakeholders. ORD Communications wanted to use this event as an opportunity to show off our design abilities so other departments in ORD would use us for their design needs. I created posters and programs that were color coded to show attendees where each event was taking place. This resulted in more requests for design help from other ORD offices.

Often, the editor of VA Research Currents asks me to create info graphics to accompany articles or as stand alone items. The above info graphics were used in a variety of media including; print (Research Currents), the web, and social media. These info graphics are the most popular posts on ORDs social media pages, and are frequently shared on other VA social media pages.
